Our partners from DBH, OSSE and Children’s National Hospital will join us to talk about the school-based substance use programs, trainings and resources available in DC.

Meeting Theme: Substance Use Prevention and Intervention in Schools

  • Sivabalaji Kaliamurthy MD, Psychiatrist, Division of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences Children’s National Hospital, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, Howard University College of Medicine

The meeting objectives are:

  1. Learn about substance use among youth in DC.
  2. Explore the misconceptions about drug use and addiction.
  3. Share best practices in substance use prevention and intervention.
  4. Explore the role of schools in preventing and intervening student substance use.
  5. Learn about school-based substance use programs, trainings and resources (e.g., Too Good for Drugs and Violence).

Who should attend:

  • School Behavioral Health Coordinators from DC Public Schools and DC Public Charter Schools (please feel free to invite other members of the team, such as administrator, mental health staff, etc.)
  • School Mental Health Clinicians from DBH and Community Based Organizations (CBOs)

The DC CoP is designed for school teams to attend and advance the implementation of school behavioral health best practices to support their School Strengthening Work Plans.
